Top Ten Tuesday Eighty One – Top Ten Popular Books that Lived up to the Hype

TTT 35 (1)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/ meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

Today is the tenth anniversary of Top Ten Tuesday, so to celebrate that I am going to be redoing a TTT post I first did two years ago!  Alot of reading tastes have changed even in that time, and so I have alot of new books to talk about that I hadn’t read back then, as well as a few that I have kept in this from back then because I still love them.

I have always loved taking part in TTT’s every week, and so I am super glad to see that it has been going for 10 years already, and I can not wait to see how long it continues on.

So here are ten popular books that lived up to the hype!

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

I actually read this one because of the hype and how many people were loving it a few years ago, and so this story definitely surprised me with how much I ended up adoring it.  The way Taylor Jenkins Reid writes just makes the story feel so real that its hard to remember that it isn’t, and so I definitely think that this historical fiction set in old Hollywood  lives up the hype.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock the last few years, you would have definitely heard of this book and seen how popular it is, popularity that is very well deserved in my opinion.  This book is the perfect heist novel with action around every corner and a group of misfits and criminals you can’t help but root for.

Carry On

One of the main reasons why I was so hesitant to read this one was because of how beloved it is, so the fact that this book managed to not only meet my expectations but also exceeded them should tell you that this book is more than worth the hype.  It is the perfect chosen one story with a twist, set in a gorgeous magical world with interesting characters and the perfect mix of humour and adventure.

Seeing as I wasn’t the biggest fan of another of this author’s books, I definitely wasn’t expecting for this one to be worth the hype at all.  And yet, come the end of this book I was overwhelmed with emotion and love for this beautiful story of friendship and growing up that is written in the most gorgeous way.

Vicious

This is another of those books that I was a little nervous to read because of how popular it was, and so because of that I obviously had high expectations for this villain story.  However, I ended up loving this dark tale of superpowers, villainy and gorgeously written morally grey characters, and so I definitely agree with all of the popularity this book has amassed.

The Raven Boys

Of course I couldn’t write a post about popular books that lived up to the hype without talking about this gorgeous series that deserves all of the wonderful love it receives.  This series is so whimsical and magical, with spectacular characters that you can’t help but fall in love with and a writing style that will instantly immerse you in its world.

Red, White & Royal Blue

I’m pretty sure that everyone has read this romance by now, and for good reason because this book is the perfect enemies-to-lovers story set against a super interesting political background.  This story is funny but also heart-warming and is definitely worth picking up if you haven’t done so already.

I don’t know what you are doing if you haven’t read this book by now, because it by far one of the most popular books from the last few years, a spot it so highly deserves.  This book tackles racism and police brutality, two very relevant topics, and really shines a light on the importance of continuing to oppose such things, and so it is  one I think everyone should read.

Children of Blood & Bone

When this book was first released back in 2018, everyone couldn’t stop talking about it, most likely because this is a gorgeous fantasy story with a fast paced plot and spectacular world building.  The multiple POVs will allow you to dive deeper into the story and the world, whilst the characters themselves are super interesting and well written, so its no surprise that I think this book more than lived up to its hype.

The Night Circus

If you want a story with beautiful writing that will immerse you in its world, then this is definitely one to pick up.  The hype for this book is more than well deserved, as it will just hook you in from the start with its magical world and interesting characters you just want to learn so much more about.

  1. Your pictures are gorgeous! ❤ I love them. I agree with so many of these books, too. I actually went into Aristotle and Dante thinking I wouldn't like it, and wouldn't you know, they just stole my heart. xD And so much yes to Vicious! I haven't read Carry On yet, but I finally got a copy of it, and I'm really looking forward to it.

    Here's my TTT.

  3. I STILL haven’t read Six of Crows, and I own the entire Grishaverse. It’s unacceptable. I keep trying to set aside time to read it, but it doesn’t happen. One day… And I love The Raven Cycle. Definitely in my top five. Great post!
