Okay, so I know I am pretty late to the game with this post, as we are now over two thirds of the way through January. But there were just way too many 2018 releases that I am excited about to simply miss out on to this post entirely. In fact, there are so many releases I am anticipating that this is not only just my anticipated releases for the first half of the year, but there are also no 2018 debuts on this list, as if I included them as well then this list would definitely go on forever. And because I could not just leave out debuts altogether, I am also going to be talking about my most anticipated 2018 debuts in another post that should go up really soon!
I am never normally someone who trolls through lists of books coming out in the upcoming year, as the majority of the books I read are backlist titles, so I am actually quite surprised at many new releases I am anticipating this year. For whatever reason there are already so many 2018 releases that have caught my eye, and that I can not wait to come out, and so I figured I would share some of them!
So here are 11 of my most anticipated releases for the first half of 2018!
As soon as I read the first line of the synopsis for this book, I was sold. A YA romance featuring a neuroatypical girl with a tragic history and the chronically ill boy trying to break the vault encasing her heart? Yes please! This book just sounds like everything that I ever want in a contemporary, and so I am really glad that it comes out in only a couple of weeks so that I don’t have to wait too long to get my hands on this fabulous book.
This is a book that instantly drew me in, as it follows different characters, all with their own problems, and all trapped inside a school on lockdown after a bombing, in which the bomber is still inside. I love how this one is focusing on many very relevant and important topics, as it deals with a school bombing whilst also exploring many of the different pressures and problems faced by those in high school. It sounds like it will be a really interesting read, and so I can’t wait for this book to be released in March.
This is one of the few books that I knew instantly was going to feature on this list. It feels like the wait for this book to be released has gone on forever, and so I am so excited that we are finally this close to it coming out! This is the third and final book in the Illuminae Files, and after adoring both Illuminae and Gemina, I can not wait to continue to follow all of the characters from the first two books, as well as met some new ones in this conclusion that I am desperate to get my hands on.
Welcome to the City of Sin, where casino families reign, gangs infest the streets…
and secrets hide in every shadow…
How does that not make you want to pick up this book! Honestly I adore the sound of this story in which our main character must enter the City of Sin in order to try and find her mother, and just think it sounds like it will be such an interesting fantasy story. I also just love the idea of this City of Sin setting, which I really hope means this book will be slightly darker than your average fantasy, something that I am more than up for if that is the case!
This book contains one of my favourite tropes, as it follows four different characters in four different places, whose lives all eventually intertwine somehow, a concept I adore seeing in books. This whole concept also has me hoping that this will be a really political and complex fantasy, especially as this is the first book in a series, so its safe to say I’m pretty excited about this one coming out soon!
This book sounds like nothing I’ve ever read or heard of before, as it follows the story of four teenagers, who after befriending a bestselling YA novelist, find their darkest secrets in her next book. I love any book that includes some aspect of writing and books within books, and so this one just sounds like such an interesting read that combines this with the reveal of these teenagers secrets and the consequences it causes for them. Not only that, but this book is also told as a series of interviews, journal entries, and even pages from the book within the book itself, something which just makes me even more excited to pick this book up when it is finally released in May.
I am a big fan of Morgan Matson, and so it was inevitable that I would be excited for her latest release. This one just sounds like it is going to be such a fun and cute read, as it takes over three days during our main character’s sister’s wedding, which honestly just sounds like such an awesome setting, especially for a Morgan Matson book. From the synopsis, it also seems as though there may be a big family aspect in this book, something that I am so up for and that just makes me want to read this book even more than I did already.
This is another book that I didn’t even have to think about putting on this list, as I have been waiting for the release of this one since the moment I finished Flame in the Mist. I can’t tell you how excited I am to see how this story both continues on and concludes, and to reunite with these amazing characters, especially as this one sees Mariko return to Inako and so seems as though it will include even more of the politics of this world and will see so many of our characters in one place. I just know that this will be such a good conclusion to this duology, and I can’t wait to finally pick this up in June!
The 5th of June is definitely a good day for book releases! I’m not a huge reader of retellings or books with a fairytale feel to them, but nonetheless this one sounds like the perfect one for me. The basic premise is that this girl is tasked with literally taking the prince’s heart, something that made me instantly add this book to my want to read list. I love the idea of her having to actually take his heart instead of just having to win it over or make him fall in love with her, and so I really hope that this one is as good as I am anticipating it will be!
This is the third installment in the Ember Quartet, and although I didn’t love A Torch Against the Night, I am still really excited to continue this series and see what happens next. I’m not going to say anything about the plot of this one, as it is the third book, but what I will say is that I am really interested to see what happens to all of the characters in this book, particularly Helene who is one of my all time favourite characters, and so I can’t wait to see what happens next in this amazing fantasy story.
Finally, this is another retelling story that just sounds like the perfect re-imagination of Cinderella in a modern setting. This one follows Cameron and Nate, when after Nate runs away on the night of their first meeting, Cameron sets out on a mission to find him with a picture of Nate’s Sharpie-decorated Chuck Taylors that begins to take the internet by storm. I love how this book really seems to modernise Cinderella by including a gay romance and really reflecting the huge part that technology and social media now has in our lives, and honestly it just sounds exactly like the type of contemporary that I will enjoy.
What 2018 releases are you excited for? Are you anticipating the release of any of these as well? What is your most anticipated 2018 release?
