Today I thought I would do another edition of the playlist book tag, as it was one of my favourite book tags to do before, and so I thought, why not have another go at it?! I have also seen other people do various rounds or editions of this tag, including Hannah @ A Clockwork Reader, who occasionally completes this tag for one album or artist in particular, so this post is partially inspired by her videos, which you should also definitely check out if you haven’t done so already!
So here is the playlist book tag – fantasy edition!
A song like this could only ever make me think of an equal as action packed and epic book as Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. Celaena’s fight to survive in this book fits so well with this, as she is unwilling to let anyone stand in her way, and is determined to do anything to get what she wants.
‘Some princes don’t become king’
‘The only thing that ever stopping me is me’
This song just instantly makes me thing of a badass queen, of which we get two in the amazing fantasy story that is Furyborn by Claire Legrand, so I had to pick this book for it. Both Rielle and Elianna are forced to fight for their survival as they begin to discover their connections as the Sun Queen and Blood Queen, and so I almost feel like this song reflects this as they begin to see each other despite living centuries apart.
‘Sitting in a palace covered in gold inside my head’
Everything about this just screams Kaz Brekker from Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, whether it be the original version by The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar, or the cover by Smallpools, which was actually the first version of this song I ever heard. From the dark tone and mood to the idea of being alone and always saving yourself, I just feel like every lyric can relate to Kaz in some way or form.
‘Tell me whose going to save me from myself, when this life is all I know’
Our main character, Mia, goes through so much in Heart of Thorns by Bree Barton, that made this song fit so beautifully with her journey of discovery and acceptance of who she really is. I love the various links to science and the heart in particular, as both are key in both Mia character’s and the story, as she tries to combat magic with science and rationality.
‘The last chapter in the story of my old self, damsel in distress’
The natural born queen of the Tearling, Kelsea Glynn, was the perfect fit for this song, as she is forced to quickly adapt to life as queen whilst also trying to safe her kingdom from invasion and ruin. The harsh reality of her kingdom and her world is also so well reflected in this, as it is a brutal place to rule over and attempt to save from invasion and terror.
‘Nothing ever comes without a consequence or cost’
‘You’ve got to be so cold, to make it in this world’
What do you think? Do you agree with the books I chose for this songs? Do you have any songs that remind you of a particular book?
