Top Ten Tuesday Thirty Two – Top Ten Popular Books That Lived Up To The Hype

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/ meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

I am super excited for this weeks topic, as there are so many popular books that definitely lived up to the hype for me.  I am someone who tends to agree with the popular opinion on books, especially ones that gain a lot of love and praise, and so I had way too many books to choose from for this list!

So here are ten popular books that lived up to the hype!

As someone who started this duology after both books had been released and gained so much praise, its safe to say I was pretty intimidated by this story, as I was sure there was no way it could meet my insanely high expectations.  I can not tell you how wrong I was about that, as I instantly fell into this world and in love with this band of characters who quickly became some of my all time favourites, with this book better than I ever thought it could be.

I could never make a list about popular books worth the hype without including my favourite.  Both this book and the entire Raven Cycle are so worth the love they receive, as they are some of the most beautifully written, magical, unique books I have ever read, and so if you are at all put off by the hype or are struggling to get through the first 100 pages, then please just pick this book up and keep reading it, because I promise you it will be worth it.

If there is one classic that hugely lived up to hype for me, it is this beautiful novel.  I always place such a high expectation on classics, because they have been beloved for so long, and yet somehow this book still managed to surprise me with how much I fell in love with this story and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s gorgeous writing, even after analysing in school.

Of course another of my favourite books had to make this list, as I can still not even begin to articulate my love for this phenomenal story.  Everything from the unique narration to the heartbreaking story itself and gorgeous characters within it is fully deserving of all of the hype it receives now and hopefully for a long time to come.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas Header.png

This book is just as important and relevant as everyone says it is, with Starr Carter being one of the most inspirational characters I have ever read about in a YA novel.  Her strength and determination to fight against the prejudice and oppression she faces is so empowering and very much needed in today’s society, and so I absolutely agree that this is a book that everyone should read.

I was super nervous going into this book, as everyone seemed to adore it so much that I was sure it was never going to live up to the hype surrounding it.  Yet, as with all of these books, this book truly did meet all of my expectations and more, as I fell in love with Levi and Cath, who instantly became one of my new favourite characters because of how realistic and relatable she was to me.

If you want a book with absolutely fantastic mental illness representation, then this is the one for you.  Although I was definitely expecting to enjoy, or even love, this book, I was still in no way prepared for how much it would affect me and grow to mean to me as as a story.

This sci-fi series quickly gained huge popularity when this book was first released a few years ago, and for good reason too.  This compelling and action packed story told through one of the most unique formats I have ever read is one that will have you forever on the edge of your seat as it takes twists and turns you never saw coming and leaves you desperate to read more from this world and to see where this story could possibly go next.

This is probably one of the most hyped YA fantasy series at the moment, something I believe (at least the first three books) it is fully deserving off.  I adore Sarah J. Maas’ rich and detailed writing style and the complex fantasy world she has created that I can not wait to explore more in the next few books.

We Were Liars Header.png

Strangely, I actually didn’t know about the huge hype surrounding this book before I read it soon after its release, as I had yet to really get involved in the bookish community.  However, I still 100% agree that this book is more than worth all of the excitement surrounding it, as this mystery told through such a beautiful and lyrical writing style is one of my favourites I have ever read, with a plot twist I can still not get over.

What popular books lived up to the hype for you?  What book were you scared to read because of the hype, but ended up loving when you finally read it?  Have you read any of these – what did you think?  Do you agree with my thoughts?
