Top Ten Tuesday Thirteen – Top Ten Books That Have Been On My TBR For The Longest

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/ meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This weeks topic is another that had me feeling quite guilty at just how long some books have been on my TBR for.  Some of these books I know I have only owned for two years or so, but some I just can’t remember how I came to own them at all, and so for all know they could have been on their forever.  Alot of the books on this list are also on my Eight Books I Want to Read in 2018 list that went up near the end of last year, and so hopefully come the end of this year most, if not all of these, will no longer be on my TBR.

So here are ten books that have been on my TBR for far too long!

I’ll be honest here and admit that the only reason I bought this was because it is written by Carrie Hope Fletcher.  I have been watching her videos for years now, and so when I heard she was coming out with a book I knew I would be picking it up as soon as it came out.  I am also interested in the actual story of this book, but nonetheless years later, this book is still sitting on my shelf waiting to be read.

I have read alot of David Levithan books, and so currently this is the only one of his that I own that I have not read.  I don’t know why this one in particular is the book I have been avoiding, but whatever the reason this is definitely one that I can still see myself reading at some point in the near future, so hopefully it won’t be too long before this book is finally moved off my TBR.

This was actually one that I bought quite spontaneously, as now I rarely pick up books that I haven’t heard much about or just based on their synopsis’.  I first bought this because of its focus on the Salem witch trials, something I find quite interesting myself, and so figured I might enjoy a book involving this topic. However, after reading a few bad reviews, I am a little more reluctant to actually read this book, hence why it is one of the books that has been on my TBR the longest.

I’m pretty sure this one officially holds the title for the book that has been on my TBR for the longest.  I have already tried to read this book twice now, but I never seem to be able to get past 150 pages or so, and so now its safe to say that I am pretty nervous about giving this book a third go.  That said, I actually DNFed The Raven Boys the first time I read it, and now that series is one of my all time favourites, so I’m definitely willing to give this book another go, hopefully fairly soon!

Somehow I actually managed to forget that I even owned this book until I was scouring my shelves for this list.  I’m pretty sure I first picked this up for about a £1 at a used book store, which is likely one of the key reasons why I bought it, and so I have absolutely no idea what this book is actually about.  Because of this, I am unsure whether I am ever going to read this book, or whether I will just end up getting rid of it, but either way for the moment it is still sitting on my TBR.

I remember being so excited for the release of this book when it was first coming out, and yet somehow this book is still on my TBR years later.  I am still really intrigued by the main concept of this book, as instead of following the ‘chosen one’ it focuses on the other ordinary people surrounding them, and so I am hoping to finally read this one and knock it off my TBR really soon!

I remember first picking this one up because it sounded like the perfect book for me – a horror book told through transcripts, reports and diary entries?  Yes please!  And yet for whatever reason, I have still not read this book years after I first picked it up.  I wish I knew why I haven’t read this one yet, but nonetheless I am still really hoping that I can change that soon and pick up this book at last.

The Shadow of the Wind Header.png

This is the book on this list that I both feel most guilty about not reading, and most desperate to finally getting around to reading.  I love Carlos Ruiz Zafon’s books, and so of course I am going to enjoy this, his most famous and most well-loved book, as well.  Yet, because I expect amazing things from this book, I am so nervous to actually read it, and hence have not picked it up yet.  I keep telling myself to just pick this one up and read it, but have yet to actually bit the bullet and do so, however I am still really hoping that I finally do so soon.

I first picked this up about 18 months or so ago, after suddenly having the desire to read a fantasy focused on dragons, and so clearly this one seemed like exactly the book to quell that need.  However, I never ended up reading it back then, and so it is still sitting there on my shelf just waiting for that desire to rise back up again so that I can actually get around to reading this book and knocking it off my TBR.

Finally, this is another one that I resolved to either read or get rid of soon because of just how long it has been on my TBR.  I remember loving the sound of this book when I first stumbled upon it on Goodreads, and although my excitement to read this one has definitely died down by now, I am still interested in reading this one if I can just get my act together and do so soon!

What books have been on your TBR the longest?  Have you read any of these – what did you think?

  1. Yes, you should read Shadow of the Wind! (It’s kind of hard to put down) And I’ve been meaning to get into more of Patrick Ness’ books, so the one you mentioned sounds pretty interesting. Great list!
